United States map

Dynamic Transit drivers cover a lot of ground on their routes. Our 48-state operating authority, which includes a strong presence in the Greater Midwest, Southwest, West Coast and Pacific Northwest, gives them the opportunity to travel through many different states. Like any traveler, many of them have their favorite destinations.

In this blog, we’re expanding on an earlier article in which we highlighted a list of recommended sites and restaurants in cities along our routes. Phoenix, Houston and Atlanta, you’re next!

Phoenix, Arizona

Located in the southwestern United States, Arizona boasts year-round warm weather and sunny skies. As its capital city, Phoenix is the U.S.’ fifth most populous city, some people refer to it as the Valley of the Sun.

SEE: If you enjoy a scenic hike, navigating Camelback Mountain boasts two trails. The mountain’s summit lies at 1,420 feet and resembles the hump on the back of a camel. Here, there are 360-degree views of the city and the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. Native species at Camelback Mountain include the desert tortoise, chuckwalla lizard and cottontail rabbit.

EAT: Street tacos are a popular choice at today’s growing number of food trucks. Crujiente Tacos serves innovative street fare in a sit-down dining environment. The trendy establishment offers street taco staples such as beef, pork and lamb. Sample its versions created with ahi poke, duck, Korean fried chicken, Texas wagya cap steak and grilled summer squash. (Location – 3961 E. Camelback Rd.)

Houston, Texas

The most populous city in the Lone Star State, Houston is known as the world capital of space exploration. It’s named for Sam Houston, an American soldier and politician. He also was one of the key leaders of the Texas Revolution.

SEE: This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. What better way to celebrate than visiting Space Center Houston. It’s the official visitor center of NASA’s Johnson Space Center and home of NASA Mission Control, International Space Station Mission Control and astronaut training. (Location – 1601 E NASA Pkwy.)

EAT: BB’s Tex-Orleans is a popular restaurant chain in Houston. It’s open 24/7 and serves traditional Southern Louisiana-style cooking fused with a Texas twist. Specialties include gumbo and Cajun-fried seafood. Houston-area publications awarded BB’s Tex-Orleans as having the best Po-Boys in Houston and as one of the best cheap eats in the city. Atlanta, Georgia

This southern city played an important role in the Civil War and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Known for its diverse musical heritage and Southern hospitality, the city’s population is approximately 500,000.

SEE: The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site possesses the home where the civil rights leader was born and raised. You can take a free 30-minute guided tour of the home, which is situated about one mile east of Atlanta’s city center. King’s gravesite is located at the site along with landmarks and museums. (Location – 450 Auburn Ave NE)

EAT: Established in 1947, Busy Bee Café operates as a woman-owned restaurant serving soul food. Popular dishes include smothered pork chops, oxtails and fried chicken served with collards and cornbread dressing. Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement once held meetings at this institution.
