5 Signs That It’s Time to Break-up With Your Trucking Company

Do you find yourself frustrated with the company you’re driving for? Are you having issues with your dispatcher? Do you feel ignored or forgotten? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, it might be time to break up with your trucking company. While the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence, here are some signs to help you gauge if it’s time to call it quits:

1. It’s not what you expected.

The most common thing Dynamic talent scouts hear is, “I’m tired of being lied to.” Many trucking companies lure drivers in with unrealistic claims about how good life is with them. If your company is not what you expected – if they don’t put action behind their lip service – then it is time to look for a new company. Changing jobs can be scary, but it is so important to work for a company that is 100% honest with you.

2. You have problems with equipment and maintenance.

Is your truck always breaking down, is the equipment old, or are you not getting maintenance help from the shop when you need it? Not good. Having reliable equipment is critical to making sure you deliver on-time with no delays due to equipment breakdowns. Find a company that invests in new equipment and maintains it. You won’t regret it.

3. You’re daydreaming about life with a new company.

If you’ve caught yourself thinking about how good things could be with another company, chances are it’s time to leave the trucking company you’re with. Perhaps you dislike the company you’re with for how they treat you, how they dispatch your loads, or maybe not giving you enough time to yourself. Consider it a sign that it could very well be time to break up with your company and find a new home.

4. You don’t feel listened to.

There’s a saying: “People don’t leave companies; people leave people”. Usually your dispatcher functions as your supervisor and is your primary point of contact and communication with the company. It is important you have a good relationship with them. If you feel like they’re doing all of the talking and aren’t listening to you, you can’t feel secure that your needs are being heard. Your success depends on this. If you’re feeling friction and are unable to switch supervisors, maybe you’re not at the right place.

5. You’re not appreciated.

As a driver, your company should be keeping you updated on how you are doing with reviews, listening to you, and trying to understand what’s going on if you’re having problems. If your company is not doing any of those and doesn’t recognize you, then you’re not at the right place. Find a company that values you and appreciates what you do for the company.
